Our Story
Richard and Elina Ussher took over Happy Valley Adventures in 2017 and turned it into what we now know as Cable Bay Adventure Park. There was instant conversation about how mountain biking would fit the picture and it was not long until good old facebook messenger had facilitated the formation of a Trail Crew. Over time the trail crew has grown into a consistent group who meet each Tuesday night to dig new trails and maintain existing ones before heading to the base cafe for a potluck dinner and beers, admittedly the main motivator at times. There is a great culture among the crew and a genuine pride to be a part of something with such an impact on the NZ mountain bike scene. You may have even seen some of the crew flaunting trail crew T-shirts around the park, earned from attending at least 10 dig nights. For those who have put in a large amount of time and effort, there is a 'blazer ceremony' which has developed into quite the ordeal these days. The trail crew is the backbone of the mountain bike development at the park and is a huge reason why the Cable Bay Enduro even exist. Everyone is welcome, so if you find yourself at a loose end on a Tuesday, or you are keen to be involved, head out to Cable Bay Adventure Park for a 5:45pm start
Cable Bay Enduro was originally held to promote the park as a new riding venue and has grown into a staple on the domestic enduro race calendar. Heading into the fifth year the goal is still the same: to deliver a professional and challenging race, with a casual and fun vibe. A race where the elite can mix with a first time racer and both feel equally stoked and welcome! Each year we hope to bring something new whilst maintaining the good parts from over the years. With the trail crew hard at work and Richard and Elina's inspiring vision for the park we are excited to see where the Cable Bay Enduro is headed.
